Earthquakes and the End Times

THE BIBLICAL EVIDENCE:
DID JESUS PREDICT AN INCREASE IN EARTHQUAKES
BEFORE THE END?

If earthquakes are not on the increase, then what shall we make of the biblical evidence that earthquakes will increase in the last days? As noted above, Hal Lindsey says that earthquakes will continue to increase "just as the Bible predicts for the last days."50 If earthquakes are not increasing, does this mean that the return of Christ cannot be near? Closer examination of the New Testament evidence will reveal that Lindsey's statement is wrong on both counts. Not only are earthquakes not increasing, but also the biblical text never indicated that they would. The popular conception that an increase of earthquakes in frequency and severity is a key sign of the temporal nearness of the end results from a misreading of the biblical text.

Earthquakes and the End Times

Comments:

This long article agrees with a position I have held for a long time. Where do Christians come up with the “increasing” earthquake hypothesis? It looks to me as though there is not much if any current increase happening.

Here are three of the major passages. The only modifier is the word great in Luke 21:11. To arrive at increases from these texts is a stretch. Maybe there is some other odd passage I’m missing that presents the increase idea? Perhaps the increase in knowledge became superimposed on quakes by some readers. But like several positions taken by Christians, once taken we spend the rest of our lives bolstering them and soliciting supporters. It matters not that the Bible doesn’t actually take the position.

Matthew 24:7

7For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places.

Mark 13:8

8For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be earthquakes in divers places, and there shall be famines and troubles: these are the beginnings of sorrows.

Luke 21:11

11And great earthquakes shall be in divers places, and famines, and pestilences; and fearful sights and great signs shall there be from heaven.

This may seem a weak position to take but something I've noticed in Biblical prophecy is the "seer" reports what he sees. When all of the end time prophecies were given, one's ability to view the earth as a whole was seriously limited. Earthquake information was localized or took a long time to get news if not local. Today, as the USGS map above indicates, we see the diversity of earthquakes in real time and all at once. In other words quakes could have been happening in diverse places but no one knew it. Now we know and understand it is happening. This seems significant to me in light of the prophecy. The quake prophecy goes with traveling to and fro and knowledge increasing. A fitting description of our time frame like no other previous time.

The Fix - Scozzafava drops out of NY-23 special election

State Assemblywoman Dede Scozzafava, the Republican candidate for the open 23rd District seat in New York, suspended her campaign today amid lagging poll numbers and lackluster fundraising. The move clears the way for Conservative Party candidate Doug Hoffman, who had been gaining support from the national party and is in a dead heat with businessman Bill Owens (D), according to a Siena College poll out Saturday morning.

The Fix - Scozzafava drops out of NY-23 special election

Comments:

Michelle Malkin, you are a wonder. I wish you well in your quest for conservative purity. I was skeptical of success but things may be working out in N.Y. Now if a win materializes perhaps Mr. Newt will dare stiffen up his spine and join you.

The recent poll showing:

The percentage of voters with an unfavorable impression of Scozzafava, a member of the state assembly, spiked from 29 percent two weeks ago to 51 percent this week.

must certainly have been affected to some degree by conservatives daring to speak out and hold to their principles.

Edit: Now Scuzzy is supporting the Democrat candidate (surprise). Let's hope Hoffman wins. Would his losing be a huge setback? I don't see how. He is after all a third party candidate. The fact that Hoffman already drove out the "Republican" candidate is a major statement. Winning would just be frosting.

Why There is a Process Known as “Peer-Review”…

2009 October 28

… or alternatively titled, “How to Destroy Your Career in One Essay” by Holger Bech Nielsen and Masao Ninomiya who claim that the Large Hadron Collider is being jinxed from the future to save the world… that or God. You know: one or the other. Take your pick.

Nielsen and Ninomiya claim in their paper The Search for Effect of Influence from Future in Large Hadron Collider that “the hypothesized Higgs boson, which physicists hope to produce with the collider, might be so abhorrent to nature that its creation would ripple backward through time and stop the collider before it could make one, like a time traveller who goes back in time to kill his grandfather”.

They also conjecture whether God may have shut down the Collider to keep it from discovering the elusive Higg’s Boson, or “God particle”. Neilsen says, “It must be our prediction that all Higgs producing machines shall have bad luck. [God] rather hates Higgs particles, and attempts to avoid them.”

Comment:

If this post does not appear, I may have returned from the future and talked myself out of posting it.

There exists a faction of Christianity (an infinitesimally tiny faction) who believes the Hadron Collider will open a portal allowing evil (other dimensional) entities access to our dimension. The Bible speaks of an unleashing of evil being in the end days. My guess it is a Y2K yawn but makes for interesting thought. How about SiFi (SyFy) channel giving this a shot. They definitely need a program boost of some kind. Hire a “Days of Our Lives” writer to drag it out until the actual end of time.

Conservative vs Liberal Test

Comment:
This is a test.

1. If your reaction to this video was outrage at the entitlement mentality, projectile vomit at the distortion of truth, and a sinking feeling as to where our country is headed; you are a conservative.

2. If your reaction to this video was sympathy for the at risk uninsured multitudes, horror at the accuracy of the message, and confidence that our country is finally on the right track; you are a liberal.

On the other hand you may simply be a pragmatist and plan on encouraging your progeny to pursue a career in government as the last bastion of economic security. This, my friend, would be wise. Apply for employment at the Postal Service or Department of Transportation early and often. Forget college or technical training, you will be working for a business that will be taxed out of existance anyway; unless of course the institution provides training for a government position, then go for it.

Some feel our "alien brothers" will be a part of the end time deception spoken of in the Bible. I'm keeping an open mind on the issue just to say "you can't fool me" when the time comes. But I'm not drinking the entire serving of Kool-Aid.

Rats! City to Pay for Informing on Tax Cheats | NBC Chicago

You dirty rat.

Chicago and Cook County residents aren’t the only ones about to get shocking tax news; the city is debuting a “tax whistle-blower” plan that could turn neighbor against neighbor in Chicago’s business community.

The folks at city hall will pay cash bounties to informants who turn in business tax cheats around the city. The reward would amount to some sort of percentage of the tax money that the city recovers.

Lest We Forget Who Caused The Problem

Reference: Backyardconservative
Comments:
Remember the "plenty of blame to go around" theory? Seems like the blame goes to people with "D" associated with them.

But hey, we must save "affordable" housing. Is it un-Christian to challenge house entitlement? I had a rented house/apartment until I graduated from college, worked several years and then bought a complete piece of junk (but it was mine). It never occurred to me that life owed me a house until I had worked for it ... so what did I miss? Where is this mysterious Biblical or Constitutional wording that states everyone is entitled to a house of their own?

Well of course their is that whole Wall Street bunch to blame as well but that would be another video. Some wise man once said "the only thing wrong with capitalism is capitalists." I would say the is a correct Biblical stance to take.

Michelle Malkin » Newt for 2012? No, thanks.

No, thanks:

Callista and I are going to think about this in February 2011. And we are going to reach out to all of our friends around the country. And we’ll decide, if there’s a requirement as citizens that we run, I suspect we probably will. And if there’s not a requirement, if other people have filled the vaccum, I suspect we won’t.

“They” shouldn’t bother.

The conservative base is wising up and pushing back. And constantly invoking Reagan isn’t going to erase the damage Gingrich has done to his brand over the years by wavering on core issues and teaming up with some of the Left’s biggest clowns.

Michelle Malkin » Newt for 2012? No, thanks.

Comments:

As much as I like Michell Malkin, I have to disagree on this point. The recent flap is over Dede Scozzafava, the GOP nominee in the New York and no we don’t like NY Republicans, on this I can agree. But 3rd party candidates are often conservative and we shoot our feet by stubbornly supporting them. Minnesota is a great example. Dean Barkley had a snowballs chance of winning but split the conservative vote enough to give us Al Franken. We hear about sending a message. I think the message is 3rd party candidates kill any chance of conservatives winning close races.

Recent polling on Doug Hoffman “no path to victory” suggests a possible shot. In that case go for it. We have to know when to pull the plug. It would be nice if "conservatives". once seeing they have no shot, would drop out and plead with their supporters to get behind the leading conservative. Good luck with that.

As for Newt in 2012, I doubt we have to worry ourselves about it. If this is all we had to worry about, wouldn't we be fortunate.

"Former Bad President" LOL, I think I found a kindred spirit.
Also he is a currently bad former President. Not to detract from his exquisitely awful past Presidency in all of its terribleness and chart topping rottenness.

What is causing the creepy handling of opposition by our current left/socialist leaning administration? Is it standard operating procedure for extreme left/socialist power centers? Some deride the use of "socialist" when referring to our current crop of power mongers. "I lived through Nazi Germany and East Germany", one German told me recently. "You Americans make me laugh when you talk about socialism." This reminds me of a man complaining a skunk has moved into his house and his neighbor, who has three skunks living in his house, thinks it silly to complain about only one skunk. How many resident skunks does one really need to constitute a problem?

The People's Cube - Obama's War on Fox News Becomes a Quagmire (or – Faux New Is the Best News After All)

The war is also personal for the aging media veteran Dan Rather, who had won many media battles but one single failure brought him a dishonorable discharge. As a result he is now suffering from Post-Traumatic-Stress Disorder (PTSD), has become homeless, and lives somewhere under the Manhattan Bridge. "This war has put a lot of wear and tear on liberal commentators," Rather observes. "Their families are being broken up because they come back home with PTSD, STD, PMS, with drug and alcohol addictions, and afflicted by severe violent and suicidal tendencies."

It is hardly a consolation that Rather is soon expected to be joined under the bridge by Rachel Maddow, Maureen Dowd, and Katie Couric, whose activist group "Boobs not Bombs" failed to distract Americans from watching Fox News by publicly flashing their breasts. The trio has been reportedly suffering from a host of psychological disorders ever since the polls revealed most Americans still preferred the sight of Bill O'Rilley's receding hairline.

The People's Cube - Obama's War on Fox News Becomes a Quagmire

The Hoax of 2012?

Widely considered the most important work of Jewish Kabbalah, the Zohar is a collection of books written in medieval Aramaic over seven hundred years ago containing mystical commentary on the Pentateuch (five books of Moses, the Torah). In addition to interpreting Scripture, the “Vaera” section (volume 3, section 34) includes “The signs heralding Mashiach,” or “The coming of the Messiah.” The fascinating date for “his” appearance is set in the Zohar at late 2012. Given the rejection of Jesus by orthodox Jews as Messiah, this coming could herald the unveiling of Antichrist in 2012.

J. R. Church of Prophecy in the News called my office recently and led me through verses 476–483 of this part of the Zohar to point out what nobody, as far as I have been able to find, in the 2012 research community has written before—that the time of Jacob’s trouble (the Great Tribulation) will commence according to this ancient text in the year 2012 when the “kings of the earth” gather in Rome and are killed by meteoric stones from the sky.

Interestingly, among other scholars of the implications of the year 2012, a few have pointed to a prophecy by Malachy O’Morgair, or “St. Malachy” as he is known to Catholics, having to do with “the last pope.” The prophecy, taken from St. Malachy’s “Prophecy of the Popes,” is among a list of verses predicting each of the Roman Catholic popes from Pope Celestine II to the final pope, “Peter the Roman,” whose reign would end in the destruction of Rome. According to Malachy’s prophecy, the next pope (following Benedict XVI) is to be the final pontiff, Petrus Romanus, or “Peter the Roman.” He will assume authority during a time of great tribulation, and then “the city of seven hills will be destroyed, and the terrible and fearsome Judge will judge his people.”

DEFENDER PUBLISHING: PART TWENTY-EIGHT: Read It Before It Is [Further] Banned By The US Government

Comments:

Is my underwear in a twist over 2012? Not really. It is what it is, or better yet, it will be what it will be. It is entertaining to hear some astronomer declaring there is no substance to any 2012 prediction or talk, or some physicist, or biologist or congressman. Based on what exactly? It is like the Postmaster declaring 2012 is a hoax because he sees no evidence to support it in the post office. We are unlikely to find direct “evidence” of this future happening in our limited time frames and disciplines.

Things become more interesting when we study the predicting business throughout the ages past. The above is provocative because different and unrelated sources arrive at similar dates. St. Malachy’s prediction of the final pope is especially interesting to those few Christians who know of it.

Joel Rosenberg Speaking 9/13/09

I find Joel Rosenberg an effective and informed speaker. Last winter I had the privilege of hearing him live. Now I ran across mp3 archives of recent talks Mr. Rosenberg gave at Calvary Chapel in Philadelphia. Most of us will never have a chance to hear him. If you have read any of his books this may be interesting. If you have not read the books this may whet your appetite. I don’t know how long these will be available.

Just a note on coming wars. The prophetic wars link a few posts back conflict with Mr. Rosenberg's time line. Not everyone believes that Pslam 83 is prophetic of a separate and earlier war from Ez. 38. Not to worry, no one really knows. The view becomes clearer as we approach the end but the picture is not perfectly detailed yet.

God’s Wrath on Unrighteousness

Romans 1:
18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, 19 because what may be known of God is manifest in them, for God has shown it to them. 20 For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse, 21 because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened. 22 Professing to be wise, they became fools, 23 and changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like corruptible man—and birds and four-footed animals and creeping things.
24 Therefore God also gave them up to uncleanness, in the lusts of their hearts, to dishonor their bodies among themselves, 25 who exchanged the truth of God for the lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.
26 For this reason God gave them up to vile passions. For even their women exchanged the natural use for what is against nature. 27 Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the penalty of their error which was due.
28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a debased mind, to do those things which are not fitting; 29 being filled with all unrighteousness, sexual immorality,[c] wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, evil-mindedness; they are whisperers, 30 backbiters, haters of God, violent, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, 31 undiscerning, untrustworthy, unloving, unforgiving,[d] unmerciful; 32 who, knowing the righteous judgment of God, that those who practice such things are deserving of death, not only do the same but also approve of those who practice them.

Romans 1 - Passage Lookup - New King James Version - BibleGateway.com

Comments:

Here is a great sermon on sexual orientation from Calvary Chapel Philadelphia. <stream> <download>

Even some Christians are struggling with this subject, especially those of more liberal theology. Notice the "approving of those who practice”. It is one thing for the individual to sin and approve of sin. There is always forgiveness for the individual. A society which approves of sin as policy may be in trouble. How very difficult it is to turn an entire society to repentance. Society already approves of abortion (killing of unwanted babies), it is the law. What comes next?

“who, knowing the righteous judgment of God, that those who practice such things are deserving of death, not only do the same but also approve of those who practice them.”

What does God do? How does God handle it? Does he zap them with lightning? Nope, He let's them have their way scripture says. He leaves them alone, gives them up. They don't want God's help or friendship. God says, you go for it. Then we all get to live in a Godless society. How far are we into our Godless society I wonder? I assume we are headed for worse and not better.

But we may have reason to expect increased homosexual influence as we approach the Day of the Lord. Is the following really simply saying things will go on in ordinary day-to-day fashion. Sodom is likely mentioned for a reason.

Luke 17:28-30 (King James Version)

Likewise also as it was in the days of Lot; they did eat, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they builded;

29But the same day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven, and destroyed them all.

30Even thus shall it be in the day when the Son of man is revealed.

Official: Obama 'disgusted' with Israel

JERUSALEM – U.S. officials in recent days expressed to the Palestinian Authority that President Obama's administration is "disgusted" with Israel, a top aide to PA President Mahmoud Abbas told WND in an interview.

Nimr Hamad said the White House was disgusted that Israel is refusing to halt all settlement activity as a precondition for re-starting talks with the PA over the creation of a Palestinian state. "Settlement activity" refers to Jewish construction in the West Bank and eastern sections of Jerusalem.

Hamad repeated that the term "disgusted" was used more than once in recent meetings with U.S. envoys to describe the administration's attitude toward Israel. Hamad did not name the U.S. envoys using the terminology.

Isaiah 5:20 Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!

Who in politics can we trust today? Mr. Gingrich is pictured more along side Al Sharpton than anyone else it seems. When conservatives compromise for power they lose ground. Liberal/Progressive/Big Government will have its due. We too often make deals with the devil in hopes of effecting hell.

Government is a voracious and insatiable beast that must eat and will grow. From the day of governments birth it consumes everything in it’s path and eventually out grows it’s environment. The best one can hope for is slowing it’s expansion. The current expansion of government is exponential and chain reactive. Even carving out some small part of real estate with survivalist strategies appears futile. When the ship is going down, grabbing food and water and barricading one’s self in the aft cabin is delusional. Unless we can quickly grow gills and fins, our coming water world will be tricky to navigate. So bail water until your nose is covered.

The Wars of the End Times

The Valley of Armageddon

Every time a war breaks out in the Middle East, I receive a flurry of phone calls and email messages asking if it could be the War of Armageddon. This question is prompted by the fact that most people are familiar with only one end time war — the one that has been popularized in movies and novels as the "Battle of Armageddon."

Part 1, Part 2

Keeping the end time wars of Bible prophecy straight is not easy. This very organized presentation follows fairly traditional views with a few interesting turns. None of this means much to us on a daily basis. Before any of these wars happen, economies can collapse, other wars can break out, a myriad of events can make life interesting.

A case in point is Iceland’s economy bankrupting (if the USA recession is not interesting enough). Here is an interview where the first portion talks of an effective radio ministry in Iceland and the last part talks of Iceland’s boom then bust economy and how Icelandic priorities are changing under adversity.

What do they say about people in glass houses throwing stones? But racism is worse than killing someone, you say. Well, even if you believe this, would not the racism need to be true and not fabricated? I know, that is way too logical. Just the accusation of racism is sufficiently despicable, it need not be true? How crazy are we? We live in a land filled with lunatics.

This is why I love blogs and an internet full of accessible information. Tom Brokaw would rent his clothing in agony to see the above information. NBC would never allow exposure of fabricated statements and risk exonerating a conservative. Mr. Brokaw would never expose despicable behavior and character flaws of a fellow Progressive colleague. Tom would adopt his concerned demeanor and warn an unsuspecting and gullible public of the dangers of unfiltered information. Investors.com - Three Decades Of Global Cooling

Climate Change: As a Colorado Rockies playoff game is snowed out, scientists report that Arctic sea ice is thickening and Antarctic snow melt is the lowest in three decades. Whatever happened to global warming?

Al Gore wasn't there to throw out the first snowball, er, baseball, so he might not have noticed that Saturday's playoff game between the Colorado Rockies and the Philadelphia Phillies was snowed out — in early October. The field should have been snow-free just as the North Pole was to be ice-free this year.

It seems that ice at both poles hasn't been paying attention to the computer models. The National Snow and Ice Data Center released its summary of summer sea-ice conditions in the Arctic last week and reported a substantial expansion of "second-year ice" — ice thick enough to have persisted through two summers of seasonal melting.

According to the NSIDC, second-year ice this summer made up 32% of the total ice cover on the Arctic Ocean, compared with 21% in 2007 and 9% in 2008. Clearly, Arctic sea ice is not following the consensus touted by Gore and the warm-mongers.

I posted several articles yesterday on this blog about all the economic news concerning the dollar dying. This occurred at the same time the homosexuals were marching in Washington, DC. Within 24 hours, the news hit that the dollar is no longer the world's reserve currency. The reserve is now the Yen and Euro!

Please understand this:

On October 11, the homosexuals rally for sodomite marriage.

On October 12, the dollar is no longer the world's reserve currency.

John McTernan's Insights: URGENT: America Judged: October 11, 2009

Comments:

California is still here so Mr. McT is changing focus to the economy. This is a reach IMHO. The dollar has been toilet bound for awhile and Oct. 12 is nothing special. Not to disparage Mr. McT’s linking in the past, And there could certainly be a degenerate society/economy link. But this current date link does not work for me. As if California’s wasteland economy were not sufficiently bad.

Oh and "hate crime" legislation has apparently ridden piggy back on some defense spending bill so we will probably need to use code in future multi-sexual communications. Can hate speech be far behind?

The Reason For God

Facing flying without a book is unnerving so I breezed through the news stand and picked up “The Reason for God” by Timothy Keller. Fortunately I had not checked the price or I would never have paid 16 bucks for a paperback. But I was already checking out and had decided no other book that day looked interesting to me. The book is worth every penny and more. Who would have guessed a stodgy old Presbyterian could teach an “enlightened” Charismatic anything? Truly, I don’t suppose Pastor Keller said much I didn’t know already but he presents the case for Christianity with unusual clarity and completeness. The book is logical for the unbeliever and challenging for the believer. This is a book that should be given away often and everywhere.

Then again Nobel was the inventor of dynamite and who better to personify explosives than Jihadists.

Nostradamus Effect - History.com

The end is near. At least that's what the doomsday predictions from Nostradamus, the Book of Revelation, the Mayan "long count" calendar and others would have us believe. Many unsettling forecasts of global destruction even pinpoint the year: 2012. How worried should we be? If these prophecies are accurate and inevitable, is there any way to avoid or at least postpone them from coming true? Michel de Nostradamus was a 16th-century French physician and astrologer whose very name is synonymous with apocalyptic visions of the near and distant future. His ominous writings appear to have accurately anticipated numerous natural disasters, plagues and wars. Nostradamus Effect examines these and other end-of-time predictions from cultures across the globe, from centuries ago, and connects the dots with current global events to separate the prophecies that appear to be inspired visions from those that are merely crackpot conspiracy theory

Comments:

This new History Channel series could be interesting. Christians understand that Nostradamus was inconsequential but this series incorporates contributors from the Christian community. I plan to catch it, Lord willing and the creek don’t rise. People are fascinated by the 2012 Mayan calendar end date. “End Times” is in the air.

John McTernan's Insights: Earthquake Alert: October 8, 2009

Homosexuals are going to march in Washington, DC, October 10 and 11 for sodomite marriage! The President of the United States is going to speak at a dinner honoring this event! This is reaching the point were "the iniquity of the Amorites is now full." To understand the iniquity of the Amorites, please see: Homosexuality vs. God's Holiness. You must read this article to understand what triggers God's judgment on a nation.

John McTernan's Insights: Earthquake Alert: October 8, 2009

Comments:

Our new interest John McTernan believes October 10 and 11 may be an interesting time in earthquake city. It may be a prudent time for Left Coast residents to take a road trip. Will it still be hate speech when Las Vegas is ocean front? We only have a couple days to wait. We hope and pray that nothing happens for many reasons.

"If God doesn't soon bring judgment upon America, He'll have to go back and apologize to Sodom and Gomorrah!"

This statement frequently attributed to Billy Graham, actually originated with his wife, Ruth, during a review of her husband's manuscript for his book, World Aflame, published in 1965. <via here>

Our society has decidedly deteriorated since 1965. I am right now listening to some Democrat on TV supporting the Safe School Czar by explaining how homosexuality needs to be taught in elementary school. The Czar wrote an endorsement for a book entitled "The Queering of Elementary Education." Can you feel the ground shaking? However the patients and mercy of God us unfathomable. Maybe we can dodge another bullet.

John McTernan's Insights: ALERT: October 7, 2009

Three more powerful earthquakes shake the Pacific! These were in the 7.0-8.0 range and set off a small tsunami. Three Major Earthquakes Cause Tsunami in Pacific 10/07/09. This is now five in a week!

It is obvious that something huge is happening with all these earthquakes. What comes to mind is the coming war between Israel and Iran. When the war starts, the world will turn against Israel. It appears almost like the LORD is gearing up for the coming battle! The earth is definitely having birth pangs.

Also, this weekend is the homosexual march on Washington, DC. In the past, massive homosexual events like this coincided with awesome natural disasters including the powerful 7.6 Lander's Earthquake of June 28, 1992 which was Gay Pride Day.

John McTernan's Insights: ALERT: October 7, 2009

Comments:

Mr. McTernan’s tracking of events eliciting God’s judgment piques my interest. True followers of Jesus Christ have always believed God is active in world affairs. Fallen angels are active as well. Is God judging the world in General and America specifically now? Mr. Mcternan’s connections are provocative. All of his connecting dates and occurrences seem too numerous for coincidence.

Here are some possible ways to view this:

1. There is no God and events transpire by random chance and human action.
2. There is a God but He does not interfere directly into human affairs.
3. The God of the Old Testament involved Himself with earth's time line but under the New Testament He no longer interferes with earthly events.
4. God does not change. He is the same in the Old Testament and the New. He judged nations and people then and now.

The more predisposed one is to liberal theology, the harder it is to accept number four. Liberal theology is fairer and more tolerant than the Old Testament God of the Bible. God's destruction of Sodom because of homosexuality (among other things) would be anathema to liberal theology. Sending Israel into Babylonian captivity is totally unfair and a liberal would never do such a thing. You see, liberal theologians are better than the God presented to us in the Old Testament. No wonder they find it necessary to mythologize Scripture.

But some of us view God as having created all things. He therefore gets to write the rules and determine what is bad and what is good. Apparently even some of the angels had a problem with this. Is God so petty that he will not tolerate deviance from one of His arbitrary rules? Or does He understand that His laws are not arbitrary but essential for our own good. Can we break them to the point of being dangerous to all mankind? I read somewhere that Dr. Livingston was so conscious of life that he would not wash his hands for fear of killing germs. How very sensitive of Dr. Livingston to everyone but those who were adversely affected by his germ laden mitts. I have no idea if the Dr. Livingston story is true but I believe God has no trouble washing his hands.

ROME (Reuters) – An Italian scientist says he has reproduced the Shroud of Turin, a feat that he says proves definitively that the linen some Christians revere as Jesus Christ's burial cloth is a medieval fake.

Comment:

I’m sad to see it go, not because I thought it was necessary proof of the crucifixion but because I love a good mystery. Things were looking dim when the carbon 14 dating put the shroud around 1300. Complaints about a contaminated sample were weak. Why would not a larger sample be submitted? The shroud is large and a one foot piece would be easy to submit. This reproduction with 1300’s technology buries the last argument that the shroud has never been reproduced. It could rise again of course.

This is a non-event in legitimate Christianity. I personally don't know a single Christian who believed the Shroud of Turin was authentic or even cared either way. If your faith has been shattered, one must inquire ... faith in what? Many Catholics are big on this type of "miraculous" material. Protestants are normally cool to stigmata like happenings. For some people, the Shroud of Turin will always be authentic regardless of any disqualifying evidence. Such is the conspiratorial mind set.

Here is an interview with Hugh Ross on this issue. <play me> Found on Reasons.org.

Tone Down Your Rhetoric

We are hearing a lot of "tone down your rhetoric" advice lately. I don't remember hearing such caution from anyone while under a Republican president. Now the air is full of soul searching. We expect these appeals from politicians, so chalk that up to typical and obvious politically left hypocrisy. Conservatives don't often make "tone down" appeals. Possibly conservatives really do believe in free speech and are grown up enough to hear mean words without running home to Mommy. Sure, we know it is political posturing and we are not expected to take you seriously, but still; I find it tiring.

But an interesting trend is coming from the "Christian" community. Christian in quotes because these are church people from the left end of the scale. But let's assume for argument's sake that they are truly Christians: howbeit Christians who are still confused about whether profit is really a good thing (especially someone else's profit). Their appeals are directed at the Christian right. This appeal is not so much Christian to Christian but left to right. Attempts to disguise the appeals as Christian brotherhood are disingenuous and offensive. They are supporting a liberal political agenda and delivering it in a religious Trojan horse.

How bad is our memory anyway? The conversation now is tea room level compared to the knife fights we went through during the Regan and Bush years. Mostly I hear conservatives discussing facts and context. I remember the scathing diatribes coming from the left previously, full of personal attack. Even now you will notice that conservative ideas are not refuted but the harshness of the language is attacked. But language is harsh only when coming from the non socialist. Like Muslims who can burn our leaders in effigy, spit on our flags and symbols and bomb our buildings, then riot when a critical Muslim cartoon is published; liberals can murder and rape our conservative women but we can not say that public option health care for a bad idea, we can not even utter the word socialism, and God knows we can not even think of disliking Barak Obama's crony politics.

What is really meant by "tone down rhetoric"? Stop disagreeing with us because we are right. We all know this but I get sick of hearing it. On the bright side, such lame appeals are worn so thin as to now sound foolish to all but another liberal. But speak away, it is your right. Preach to that choir. Just don't be too disappointed when we do not buy what you are selling despite your wearing a collar and wrapping your socialist politics in religious language.

Oh, and yes, I know, I am just plain mean.

Yes, appeals for civility are always appropriate. The timing is suspicious.

My Opinion by Joe Eiben » The media’s approach to a Harley biker

A HARLEY BIKER….

A Harley biker is riding by the zoo in Washington , DC when he sees a little girl leaning into the lion’s cage. Suddenly, the lion grabs her by the cuff of her jacket and tries to pull her inside to slaughter her, under the eyes of her screaming parents.

The biker jumps off his Harley, runs to the cage and hits the lion square on the nose with a powerful punch.

Whimpering from the pain the lion jumps back letting go of the girl, and the biker brings her to her terrified parents, who thank him endlessly. A reporter has watched the whole event.

The reporter addressing the Harley rider says, ‘Sir, this was the most gallant and brave thing I’ve seen a man do in my whole life.’

The Harley rider replies, ‘Why, it was nothing, really, the lion was behind bars. I just saw this little kid in danger and acted as I felt right.’

The reporter says, ‘Well, I’ll make sure this won’t go unnoticed. I’m a journalist, you know, and tomorrow’s paper will have this story on the front page… So, what do you do for a living and what political affiliation do you have?’

The biker replies, ‘I’m a U.S. Marine and a Republican.’ The journalist leaves.

The following morning the biker buys the paper to see if it indeed brings news of his actions, and reads, on the front page:

U.S. MARINE ASSAULTS AFRICAN IMMIGRANT AND STEALS HIS LUNCH

That pretty much sums up the media’s approach to the news these days.

Hats off to Mr Eiben for capturing the mood of the day. Making me laugh is a plus.

State to mom: Stop baby-sitting neighbors' kids - Yahoo! News

IRVING TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Each day before the school bus comes to pick up the neighborhood's children, Lisa Snyder did a favor for three of her fellow moms, welcoming their children into her home for about an hour before they left for school.

Regulators who oversee child care, however, don't see it as charity. Days after the start of the new school year, Snyder received a letter from the Michigan Department of Human Services warning her that if she continued, she'd be violating a law aimed at the operators of unlicensed day care centers.
